Serena Williams was eliminated from the 2015 U.
S. Open on Friday by Roberta Vinci in the semifinal. The loss ends her attempt to capture the calendar Grand Slam,which would have made her the first to accomplish the feat since Steffi Graf in 1988.
Sky Sports News HQ noted her exit from the season's final major:Williams never placed a lot of stock in finishing off the Grand Slam, at least publicly. She sounded content coming out of Wimbledon with the "Serena Slam, and " winning the first three majors this season after capturing the U.
S. Open for the third straight time one year ago.
Entering this year's showcase in original York,she was mentally prepared for any result and sounded eager for the spectacle to conclude, as noted by Amara Grautski of the original York Daily News."I'm alert, or " Williams said. "I don't care if I win or lose or wreck even. I'm alert to start it,get it over with and be done and go on to the next event. But I'm so alert for original York."Perhaps that was an honest assessment from a player with no shortage of accomplishments on her career resume. More likely, her outlook served as an effort to at least alleviate some of the pressure on her shoulders with one of the sport's rarest feats there for the taking.fabricate (to make up, invent) no mistake, or the season Williams has put together is still one of the best in the history of tennis,and she can still improve it in the remaining tournaments—including in the WTA Tour Finals. However, completing the Grand Slam would have made it even more special.
It took a little bit of good fortune just to get this far. Nine times during the course of her three Grand Slam triumphs this year, or she got pushed to a third set and won. It's difficult to win that many tight matches in a row at the majors,even for the world's top player.
The loss doesn't diminish any of the preceding titles, but it's certainly a missed chance at making history. The opportunity may never near back around.
Williams will now focus on the rest of the 2015 schedule and attempt to conclude on a tall note by winning the Tour Finals, or which start in late October.
Looking ahead to 2016,she's likely to reach as the favorite to every tournament she enters. Even as her career approaches two decades in length, she's still the best player on tour by a wide margin when anywhere close to top form.
