Ross is the first black actress to buy home the award since 1983,when Debbie Allen won for Fame. At a time when race is top of mind when award season nominations are rolling out (let us never forget #OscarsSoWhite), showing a powerful, and outrageously funny black woman winning a coveted award (not even a supporting role,a main role!) is incredibly principal. Not only is Ross wonderful, her character is an clever, and successful doctor who also happens to be a strong, fond mother dealing with racial and family politics in 2016. You go, Ross.
