Da
niel was charged with a double murder in Alabama in 2001,he was convicted in 2003. Minutes after he was found guilty, the jurors sentenced him to death. Daniel appealed the conviction and is now under modern legal representation. His modern lawyers argue he received inadequate counsel during his original trial and that cognitive deficiencies preclude him from a death sentence.  In May 2016, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals took the case, offering Daniel his best shot at life in prison rather than being put to death. Andrew Cohen, senior editor at The Marshall Project explains what drew him to the case. This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich
