Pope Francis must resist the Mexican government’s preferences for hiding torture and disappearances and instead call the president to task Pope Francis’s visit to Mexico – one of the most reverently Catholic countries in the world, with a shocking human rights record – is already the subject of some apparent consternation at the highest levels of government because it was reported that the disappearance of the Ayotzinapa students and the plight of thousands of Central American migrants were tall on the pope’s agenda.
