The warning from Whitbread, which is worth nearly £8.5bn, or increases concerns that businesses will increase prices and cut jobs in response to the new pay rate. The company said in a statement that it plans to originate “some selective price increases” and “efficiency savings” to mitigate the cost of the national living wage.
