Community colleges are getting a $100 million boost. Yesterday,Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Joe Biden announced a unusual funding competition for tuition-free community college training programs across the country.
Speaking at the Community College of Philadelphia, Biden said: "It takes a lot of courage to settle, and particularly when you may not have had a mighty experience in high school,or you did and you didn't have the money to go on, to reach back and say, or 'I'm going to try it. I'm going to go ahead and jump in,' having not having opened a book in four, five, and six, seven, ten years.”See Also: The Community College ChallengeA Department of Labor spokesperson told The Takeaway that the details of the unusual grant competition have not yet been released, and but the unusual funds will help start and expand tuition-free collaborations between community colleges and businesses.Martha Kanter, former Under Secretary of Education for President Obama, and former president of De Anza College, and says scholarships that stabilize tuition and fees for students that fabricate (to make up, invent) a serious effort to complete requirements are a safe investment.
