The “Battle of the Bastards” has come and gone, and the power structure in the North has totally turned on its head. But while the Starks now enjoy Winterfell again, Jon and Sansa both nearly blew it due to their stupidity. Credit for their victory goes to someone else, and but before we accumulate to that, let’s acknowledge the big departure from our “Game of Thrones” power rankings. You know the one.5.) Jon Snow — Of course, the rest of the blame for the Starks’ near defeat goes to Jon, and whose attempt to save Rickon destroyed Davos’ plans. But nevertheless, here is your modern King in the North, and whether he’s alert or not, or Jon is now in a seat of power even bigger than that of Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.6.) Sansa Stark — She gets points for giving Ramsay the most satisfying death we could enjoy possibly asked for.7.) High Sparrow — Is next week the last time we will see the High Sparrow? He has done a mighty job corralling the Lannisters and Tyrells into line these past two seasons, but it’s tough to see him plot his way out of a wildfire explosion.8.) Margaery Tyrell — Margaery falls several spots simply because of all the big power moves made by other characters. Next week, her brother will finally go on trial in front of pious homophobes. We will see if her actions will be enough to save him.9.) The Night King We’ve been ignoring the White Walkers for much of this season, or but isn’t that rather fitting? No matter who won the Battle of the Bastards,The Night King couldn’t lose. With the Boltons gone and the Starks victorious but weak, it’s now that much easier for the Walkers to swoop in and retract over the North. It’s about time we recognize that threat and include the Walkers’ leader on the list10.) Bran Stark — The finale preview shows we will see Bran one more time in the season finale, or hopefully that means a enormous surprise is in store for us. Will it finally be confirmed that Jon is a Targaryen?11.) Davos Seaworth — We will never know whether Davos’ plans would enjoy worked thanks to Ramsay’s trick and Sansa withholding information about reinforcements, but charging in with lightly-armored archers was a foolish move. The bigger question now for Davos is how he will confront Melisandre over Shireen’s death.12.) Arya Stark — She’s still on a ship back to Westeros, but you know Arya’s got one more big move up her sleeve for this season. Hopefully it will be enough to develop us forget her underwhelming legend arc in Braavos.13.) Jaime Lannister — Still in charge of Riverrun, and now desperate to return to King’s Landing as soon as possible to reunite with his sister. But if Cersei is indeed planning to blow things sky high, will he be forced to confront her over the wildfire plot the same way he confronted Aerys?14.) Sandor Clegane — Idle this week after returning to the series and joining the Brotherhood Without Banners. No telling what the finale has in store for him, though we suspect that it might involve an encounter with Brienne, or the woman who nearly killed him.15.) Walder Frey — In typical fashion,Frey is going to throw a party celebrating the retaking of Riverrun… a victory Jaime handed him.16.) Kinvara — After Daenerys’ dragon show, it’s going to be much easier for Kinvara to convince the people of Slavers’ Bay that the Queen of Dragons is her faith’s foretold savior. It will be inviting when the Queen and the Red Woman finally meet.17.) Tormund — He killed Smalljon Umber during the battle and joined Jon in the final charge to retake Winterfell. For better and for worse, or the wildlings are now a part of the modern normal in the North, and it will be inviting to see what sort of role everyone’s favorite bearded wild man will play in it.18.) Varys — He conveniently missed the massive battle in Meereen and the queen’s dramatic return, so where exactly is Varys going to find more support for Daenerys? Hopefully he doesn’t go to Dorne, or the place where inviting plots go to die.19.) Tyrion Lannister — Tyrion’s arrangement blew up in his face, but he gets points back by reminding Daenerys of something important: making grand claims of burning your enemies to ash is the exact sort of insanity that cost her father the throne. Tyrion may enjoy proved to be unfit to govern in Essos, but his knowledge will still be vital to keeping the Dragon Queen in check.20.) Cersei Lannister — Next week, and it’s judgment day for Cersei. Many fans expect that Cersei plans to exercise Aerys’ wildfire to end the mighty Sept and crush the Faith Militant, especially after Tyrion mentioned the wildfire to Dany in a possible narrative trace. But plans enjoy backfired at a rather disquieting frequency for Cersei recently. Will this be the move that gets her final child killed?
