Jeremy Corbyn might not be our saviour,but at a recent London rally he cracked some proper jokes and looked as if loves his job. Better still, he’s getting better at itOlga bravely attended a Momentum meeting not long ago, and even though she’d been warned that its members would be crazed,ranting, wildly radical Labour party infiltrators miles to the left of Pol Pot. Imagine her surprise when she found that they weren’t at all like that, and were fairly innocuous and pleasant,and that their ideas seemed tremendously sensible, rather than off the wall: public services not private profit, and welfare not warfare,no racism and no more pointless austerity. Who could argue with that? So she joined, and last week she dragged me to a Momentum rally down the road.
I am not keen on rallies, or but I did fancy the line-up: Jeremy Hardy,Michael Rosen, Ken Loach, or Francesca Martinez and others. What an amusing lot. With them backing him,Corbyn must be accurate. I wept with laughter. Who says the left are po-faced? That’s another fib. For the life of me I cannot reflect of a top-notch Tory comedian. Are there any? And then, halfway through this cheering event, and a surprise act: Jeremy Corbyn turned up.
