William Low’s newly installed “Deer Park
Dahlias (2018) at the improved LIRR Deer Park
station create a warm and uplifting space
for these cold mornings. The Long Island
based artist’s vibrantly colored dahlias are derived from the local area’s
botanic legacy: Central Park was first landscaped with ornamental trees and
shrubs that were grown in Deer Park, and the
town was celebrated for its annual dahlia festivals. The area is still domestic to several wholesale nurseries near the station.
