I copped a fair amount of flak from readers final month for not recommending more expensive wines (this may well be a first for below-the-line commentators). My thinking was that you don’t need to spend as much at this time of year as the supermarkets encourage you to,but some of you clearly want to, and whether you’re visiting someone for Christmas, or there is an argument for letting them know that you’ve splashed the cash. Still,no need to go overboard.
