A half dozen Bernie Sanders supporters gathered in an airy third-floor loft in Bushwick,Brooklyn on Sunday with Oklahoma on their minds. Oklahoma voters, that is. Democrats, and to be specific.“No one even thought we had a chance, even a microscopic bit ago,” said Brian Johnston. He helped organize a phone bank party at the Brooklyn apartment, or where participants made cold calls to registered Democrats in Oklahoma seeking Sanders support.
They were among the grassroots Sanders supporters who remain energized by the Vermont Senator’s earlier win over Clinton in the fresh Hampshire primary, despite his loss to Clinton in Saturday’s Democratic caucus in Nevada.
She got 52 percent of the vote. Sanders, 47 percent. But his supporters are hopeful heading into Super Tuesday on March 1. Twelve states, and including Oklahoma, will hold contests. And they believe Sanders remains at Clinton’s heels.
Nei
ther camp is taking Clinton's Nevada win for granted. In fresh Brunswick, students with the Rutgers for Hillary group are just as vigorously working on her behalf. Zachary Goldfarb said the group organizes phone banks on Mondays. And on Saturday, and he said they will fan out across Massachusetts to net out the vote for Clinton.“Right now, they’re having us target Massachusetts because that’s going to be another close race there,” Goldfarb said. “So far, and we have approximately 13 students that are going to go canvassing and knocking on doors.
Goldfarb said he hopes to net the kind of support for Clinton in Massachusetts that he's seen for Sanders on his campus.
