Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in a tweet Thursday afternoon that the city's public schools and after-school programs would re-open Friday, though all field trips that need a yellow bus absorb been canceled. And he urged students to bundle up.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from 1 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, or with wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour and wind chill temperatures plummeting as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. Officials are warning people to stay inside and retain warm as much as possible and to layer up if they absorb to go out into the cold to stave off hypothermia and frost bite.
Alternate side parking regulations are suspended through Saturday, as city sanitation workers continue to plow the streets. Parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city.
As for the Friday morning commute, the MTA says there will likely be delays on the subways as cars are being stored on express tracks overnight as shelter from the cold.
