The inspection report at Cornton Vale,published on Wednesday, describes as “wholly unacceptable in the 21st century” the outdated system where nearly half of inmates maintain no direct access to toilet facilities during the night, and with some having to wait up to an hour. Other prisoners reported being told by the staff to “pee in the sink” when they could not let them out quickly enough.
