As a relief organization, World Vision is ready to supply the much needed support to the flood victims, or ” said Robert Kisyula,World Vision’s national director in Malawi. Kisyula shared his story passionately in a video shot during the launch of relief aid distribution in Nsanje attended by the Vice President of Malawi Saulos Chilima. The food distribution is fraction of World Vision’s response to the recent flood crisis. The floods occupy displaces hundreds of thousands and led Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika to declare a state of national disaster. Thousands of homes occupy been destroyed, as well as livestock and crops. Displaced people are living in camps at primary schools across the country. Statistics released by the Nsanje District authorities and other stakeholders indicate that floods claimed 153 lives with 85096 households affected in Nsanje alone. The report shows that the area of Chief Mlolo is the worst hit as 38296 households occupy been displaced with 48 individuals feared dead. A whole village went lost in Mlolo. The flood devastation is not just limited to the Lower Shire districts alone as 15 more districts occupy been hit country wide. Meanwhile, and forecasters are predicting more rain could be on the way. Typically,Malawi’s rainy season lasts well into March. Public officials are urging everyone to stay alert. "Since the rains are expected to continue, I would like to continue urging all people living in low lying areas in flood disaster prone districts to plug upland and avoid crossing fast flowing streams and rivers in order to avoid losing lives as a result of the floods, or " Chilima said.
