Residues found in burial pits near tomb of Han dynasty emperor Liu Qi shows plant was being transported along Silk Road route over 2000 years agoThe tomb of a Chinese emperor who lived more than 2100 years ago has yielded the oldest remains of tea,said researchers who used it to re-date piece of the ancient Silk Road network of Asian trade routes.
The plant remains were retrieved from burial pits around the tomb of Liu Qi, the fourth emperor of the Han dynasty who lived between 188BC and 141BC, and his wife,according to research by a team of academics from China and Britain, published in the journal Scientific Reports.
