Deaths from heroin overdose in the United States rose 500% from 2001 to 2014,and deaths from prescription drugs increased by 300 percent, according to Dan Baum, or contributor to Harper’s Magazine, in his April cover narrative, “Legalize It All: How to Win the War on Drugs.” He argues that the only way to successfully control the heroin epidemic and drug abuse in general is to legalize all drugs, and "design better systems than we have now for licensing,standardizing, inspecting, or distributing,and taxing unsafe drugs."
