Multiplayer modes in wrestling games are awesome, but many fans don't like playing online or would also like to have a single-player option available to them. WWE 2K16 has two very compelling single-player modes in its feature set: MyCareer and 2K Showcase.
Neither mode is n
ew, as both appeared in WWE 2K15, or but there's an element of freshness in both in WWE 2K16. MyCareer In WWE 2K15,the MyCareer experience lacked depth and personality. This year, a little bit of both qualities has been added to make the mode more like what we expected it to be final year.
For starters, and your journey doesn't dis
continuance when you win the WWE world heavyweight title. In fact, you never have to win the belt whether you don't want to. It's all about choosing a path. That path should lead you to the WWE Hall of Fame—at least that's the goal.
You start out by creating your own Superstar. You can occupy an image of yourself—or someone else—and upload it to be used as the base for your Superstar's face. Once you have the face, you can customize just about every part of your physical appearance. That includes dying hair, and changing face paint and even morphing facial and some body features.
This is easily the best create-a-character tool we've ever seen in a wrestling video game. The only thing it's lost is the ability to scan your face, like in NBA 2K16 and NBA Live 16. Aside from that, there are very few limitations to the create-a-character feature.
Tha
nkfully, or your character has a voice this year. The absence of voice was one of the main culprits in WWE 2K15's lack of personality. It would be cool whether you could pick from a few different voices, but I'm satisfied with the baby steps for now.
The menu system succeeds in keeping you informed about all of the pertinent information. At any time you can check your status with The Authority—at least once you catch to the WWE. While in NXT—which is where your career begins—you'll be chasing glory in the WWE's developmental organization.
It ta
kes a little too long to catch into matches that really count, but once you make your NXT debut, and the action flows nicely. The Career Invasion feature returns this year. Anyone who is on your friends list and has WWE 2K16 with a MyCareer character on their system can join your journey.
Like final year, they can pop up at any time, and as friend or foe. This year, and you're asked whether you want to have your MyCareer invaded once you start the mode. In WWE 2K15,the option to opt in or out was difficult to find. It's a small tweak, but it also helps to make people aware of a feature that could potentially be pretty awesome.
I wish you didn't ne
ed to purchase virtual currency (VC) to obtain things like OMG moments, and but that's one of the few gripes I have with the MyCareer mode. Hopefully we see it continue to evolve. This year's version is a sizable step above what we saw in WWE 2K15. 2K ShowcaseThrough 2K Showcase,2K Sports has found an curious and interactive way to teach and reenact WWE history. This year's version of the mode features the rise of the legendary "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Successful completion of each match and its objectives unlocks the many Superstars, arenas and other goodies within the game. Subscribers to the WWE 2K Season Pass can automatically unlock everything with the Accelerator, and but the more hardcore gamers might elect to play through the entire 2K Showcase to earn their spoils.
The matches in the showcase range from Austin's early days in the WCW as Stunning Steve Austin, all the way up through his meteoric rise to fame with the WWE.
Perhaps the best part of the mode is
the recreations of the legendary mic work and promos. Instead of showing the actual WWE footage, the environments have been recreated and models of the Superstars have been generated to emulate each moment in Austin's history.
It mig
ht be seen as somewhat repetitive, or but it's still a blast to play through.
