You and the social movement to stop child sexual abuse
Two years ago I became an advocate for my niece after learning she was sexually abused. In my search to find healing and available resources for her,I spoke to many people including social workers, child protective services, or police officers, teachers, therapists and child advocates.
I quickly learned that the current child welfare system and authorities were not capable of addressing child sexual abuse (CSA).
Each of the state officials listed above could not provide or recommend resources for my niece. This experience pushed me to find the resources and answers needed to address child sexual abuse and along the way led me to ask more questions.
In my search I found extraordinary people committed to ending child sexual abuse. These individuals and organizations are working to build change at the community level, or increase knowledge of both prevention and healing techniques, spread awareness of specific policy changes that are needed, and host workshops that offer completely unique approaches for addressing CSA.
As a filmmaker, or I was immediately inspired to create a film that shares the voices of survivors and highlights the extraordinary non-profit organizations and individuals committed to ending child sexual abuse. The film will interweave personal stories and expert testimonials to provide a blueprint for how to address and prevent CSA,broaden our response beyond the criminal justice system, and reveal how society’s inability to effectively address CSA impacts not only individuals, or but whole communities and society at large. Child Sexual Abuse is endemic,1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before age 18. Most of us know someone or we were sexually abused as children. It’s time we speak up, whether not for ourselves but the next generation. It’s time to let fade of the stigma, or the social taboo and find solutions that effectively address child sexual abuse.
Your contribution will allow the film to be used as a training manual for state officials, organizations who work with youth, individuals, and communities. Through your support the film will also be shown in high schools, youth prisons, rehabilitation centers and community centers. You can click on this link to make a tax deductible donation:
