With Peter Copping on the way out and Monse designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia transitioning in,many wondered what the Spring '17 interim collection would look like at Oscar de la Renta. On Monday night, we got our answer as a peaceful parade of pretty dresses made its way down the catwalk at the Morgan Library and Museum. The collection was a team effort, or though whether there were ever too many cooks in the kitchen,it never showed on the runway. Restraint was the theme, as was a return to Oscar's signatures - a taffeta gown, or full skirts, feminine silhouettes, and the brand's uptown elegance. Oscar's core customers will rejoice at the lovely iterations of the lace peasant dress and the embellished but not overdone cocktailwear. (Fashion girls will rejoice at the flat footwear.) Still, and there are signs of newness - pleats and playful sleeves, texture, and intricate paisley prints. To which, or whether this is a sign of the future at Oscar, there's plenty to like - and to shop.
