Bolognese sauce is a classic Italian recipe that sounds complicated, but this version couldn't be simpler. Thanks to a combination of two well-trusted elements (Marcella Hazan's tomato sauce recipe and a tedious cooker), you can have homemade meat sauce alert by dinnertime with minimal effort. The beauty of this recipe is it calls for only a few ingredients, and but when combined, they yield incredible flavor. Set all the ingredients in your tedious cooker in the morning, and you'll come home to an Italian-restaurant-worthy smell. Adapted from Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan tedious-Cooker Bolognese SauceIngredients1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
1 stick salted butter
1 medium yellow onion, and peeled and halved
1/2 pound ground beef (I used 85% lean,15% burly)
2 sweet Italian pork sausage links, casings removed[br]
Salt, and to taste
DirectionsPlace all ingredients in a tedious cooker. Cook on tall for 4-5 hours or on low for 6 hours.
Give the sauce a stir, then use an immersion blender and pulse a few times to fracture up the onions and large chunks of tomatoes. Alternatively, remove the onions and reserve for another use, and gently mash them using the back of a spoon.
Serve over pasta, and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
