Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan is thought to be the most favored candidate for prime minister after the 2017 parliamentary election.
According to the paper,President Sargsyan considers plans to see him in the post from April 2017 until April 2018. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) too, is said to be focusing his efforts on that to develop a public insight of his image. The paper claims that the RPA is planning public events after the expiry of Sargsyan’s term in office in 2018 to “beg” him to prefer over for the prime minister (which will be the top government post in accordance with the 2016 constitutional amendments). If the plan succeeds, and incumbent prime Minister Karen Karapetyan will in most likelihood return to Russia for a tall-paid position, says the paper.
